1: Why did anyone think stupid academic conflicts like this were a good idea?

2: Why are people still fighting it years after Gould's death?

3: Why are biologists so vicious? Are geologists or astronomers like this?

    1: Because Excuse Plot, war style.

    2: Why are people still angry at terrorists? Because it's a "good" reason to keep killing each other. Also differences in opinion and culture.

    3: Because it's a base of scientific research that requires the study of life, which leads to some unnerving things to be learned and done. Geologists and astronomers don't have to work with living things so they are fine from this effect.

    If geologists find out they were very wrong about the physics of metamorphic rock formation, few lay people will be perturbed.
