This is actually something many religious studies majors have told me they don't like about the book... so you're in fairly good company I guess.

They're meant to be introductions to the study through a form you're familiar with. They are by no means actual philosophy texts.

The Vinni Pukh cartoon really isn't helping the stereotype that Russians are perpetually cynical and depressed.
