Hating something blindly then realizing you like it.

edited 2011-01-08 19:47:17 in Media
remember that one time I used to make fun of the Live vocaloid concerts and the vocaloids in general because they were not real people and would never win any awards, no matter how popular their music was? And how I said they were only popular for Otaku because of Moe Marketing?

I am eating my own shit now, due to the fact that I listened to Double Lariat and enjoyed it. I also found out I had a Megurine Luka avatar back at Tv Tropes and not even knowing that she was a vocaloid while I went on my "LOL VOKAROIDS AH STEPPID" rants.

So IJBM, ever start liking something you openly and shallowly mocked?

  • Because you never know what you might see.
Free jazz, later emo, later screamo, later death metal.

This has happened too me a grand total of...

    ONCE.

    With anime.

    That's about it.
  • Hating something blindly and then realizing you like it?

Isn't that the plot of every hentai ever?
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
Happened to me a few times, after a while, I realized that I should stop blindly hating things.
  • «Happened to me a few times, after a while, I realized that I should stop blindly hating things.»
    So how about that Homestuck?
  • I haven't gotten into it yet.

    Still busy with Higurashi Manga.
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
Wait, you didn't know that you had Luka as avatar? YOU HAD A LUKA MEGURINE AVATAR, WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHO SHE IS? THIS IS HERESY! THIS IS UNFORGIVABLE! THIS IS ME, BEING A LUKA FANBOY!

But to say something to the topic: I had this with Harry Potter. There was a lot of Hype Aversion involved.

    Also, Gelzo wins the thread.

    Kichigai birthday!!
Higurashi manga is the grrrrrreatest in Koridai.

And in the next page, she looks like an old woman. That confused me.

    Kichigai birthday!!
    She isn't there anyway

Fuck it, I can't make spoiler text.
  • I still think the only good thing about Hatsune Miku is that she attracts the majority of the NSFW PVC figure contractors and at least keeps Megurine somewhat clean on Google Images.

Something went wrong with your spoiler. I'm glad that I knew about that anyway...
  • And yup Nyarly. People thought I was trolling with that avatar.

    "So how about that Homestuck?"

I tried getting into Homestuck. More than once, I might add. I failed.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
I think Homestuck is worth giving a chance if only because the plot sort of creeps up on you unawares and it's decent.  Also, awesome music which doesn't show up much until a little way in.

But the sense of humour is basically the same throughout, so if the start didn't amuse you, I can imagine that being off-putting.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
    Yeah, it was....less than appealing.
  • I used to hate vegetables, rock-and-roll, porn, and tokusatsu.

Now I still do, so I'm miserable.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
OK, maybe that last post wasn't entirely accurate, but the point is that the humour doesn't ever really go away, even when the plot gets more plot-y and dramatic.
  • Y'see, that's what Hussie WANTS.
  • yea i make potions if ya know what i mean
Does anyone else think "Andrew Hussie" sounds like a Mobster's alias?
  • IT IS!

How do you think he got the Midnight Crew to cooperate?
  • Also, that. I like this song, yet I have a severe dislike for Touhou.

    WHY
  • Because that song and video are awesome despite being based on something that does not exist.
  • I used to be like this with Harry Potter and Pokemon due to hype backlash.  Boy did I feel silly after a while.

Oh yeah, Pokemon. Maybe I shouldn't have based my bad opinion of it on one episode aired in a language I didn't even know at that time (English), specially when the other couple of episodes looked cool.

    a little muffled
Pokémon for me too, although in my defence I was four at the time. I also claimed Pikachu was the only Pokémon I liked...because, of course, it was the only one I even knew.
  • Same here. I only liked the meaty awesome ones, as opposed to the cutesy ones like Jigglypuff and Illumise and Pachirisu.

Bagon is cute, and turns into something that can kill a Rayquaza.
