You are idiots, you don't need a 4x4 to drive to the shops and pick up the kids.
Your car is too big for small town streets.

Bonus section:
American family who live nearby, why did you bring american 4x4s to drive round the town, your cars are waaaaay too big for UK town roads.
Although I noticed you've replaced them with normal cars, well done although I suspect it was due to the fuel costs and how inefficient american SUV type things are rather than you being decent people.

If you live on a farm fine then you most likely need it, you do not need it in an urban setting.

    Normal car here is a "sedan", or a 4-door car.  With front and trunk (or boot as you Brits call it) lower than the passenger area of the car.

    Some people get "coupe" or 2-door cars.

    SUV is sport utility vehicle, or basically a 4-door car on a truck body.  Literally.  Having a truck body (including a pole through the frame) is what allowed car companies to manufacture these things using the laxer truck emissions/fuel efficiency standards.  In practice they end up looking like covered light-duty jeeps.

    Pickup trucks usually have two doors and a large cargo space in the back.  Sometimes they may have back seats, but rarely rear doors.

    Station wagons are basically sedans but with the boot being open to the passenger area and with a ceiling as high as it, mostly.

    There are some really small compact cars or station wagons that have a station wagon design but are much smaller and often only have two doors.  There are usually just considered cars anyway.  This includes the Geo cars and things like the Toyota Prius.
