Not even anime cons are safe, it seems.

not for me, it isn't
I'm surprised this hasn't happened sooner. In fact, I'm almost sure this guy isn't the first.
Remember that anime is a fairly nerdy sort of thing that attracts a lot of women, and nerdy young people tend to be fairly vulnerable. Ergo, vulnerable young women being rather common at anime cons shouldn't come as a surprise - nor should the fact that some guy caught on and used it to his advantage.
And I guess you'd find some fairly desperate guys, too. It's not an awesome combination.
Since a lot of horny teenagers go to cons (disregard this, horny teenagers go everywhere), the idea that you can find a honey/waifu/hookup/hottie/real dakimakura/whateverthefucktheycallthemnowadays seems to elevate in your head when you are not hanging out with the "SUPER DESU NEKO BAKA KAWAII CHAN!" groups that take a ton of pictures and run around Nyahing everywhere, and go to different areas of the con where less of that seems to dwell (hentai, guro or alternative panels).
Or you find people who look horny or lonely, and ask them to hang out with you in your room to watch some anime.
I have this silly notion where I think nerds should try to be better than the people who often bullied and singled them out.
Silly me.
Of course, if it happens anyways, there's totally nothing wrong with that.
"Oh man...you are a hot L Cosplayer"
"...."
"...wanna hang out?"
Also, I don't know what you do at cons or your main perogative so this is probably why this doesn't make sense.
And I go to Anime Detour/Sakura-Con and Comic Con, while car-pooling with a ton of people 18+, so the demographic might be different.
and taking creepy stalker pics of cosplaying girlsTo be honest, that sounds even more creepy for some reason.
"Oh? Sure. This should be interesting..."

The scariest part about that is that someone probably has cosplayed as a sexy Ryuk before.
