I can handle slowness. I can handle a poor interface. But suddenly refusing to connect to the iTunes store or my iPhone is the last straw. I'm jailbreaking my iPhone and finding an iTunes alternative.

Which brings me to a question. Does anyone know a good alternative to iTunes?

    While we're looking for iTunes alternatives, I'd like one that: (a) lets me maintain a music library, and (b) can easily load my 4G Nano. Anyone have suggestions?

    Apparently foobar2000 has a plugin that lets you sync your iPod and such.  Since foobar2000 is the music player I use, I guess I'm probably going to recommend that.  That said, I haven't actually tried the iPod stuff yet with it.  I'm going to right now, and I'll get back to you once I have...

    I, too, shall look at foobar2000, Songbird, and Winamp, and use them all in rotation for a week or so until I figure out which I like best. Because that's what I do! *puts on sunglasses*

    Winamp seems mostly good, but it seems to fail at sorting videos.

    Oh, right, forgot to mention that foobar2000 doesn't do videos at all.  So you'll need something else for that.

    iTunes works fine for me. But I guess that's because I'm not a SUPER NON-DRM COMPUTER GUY and I should jailbreak my printer if I don't want to be in the grip of the man.

    (Yes I know iTunes doesn't have DRM anymore)

    I would very much like to switch over to foobar2k and Mediamonkey for iPod syncing but I would rather not risk doing it without knowing if Mediamonkey supports ad-hoc library entries (entries that are in the library database but the actual files are gone, thus allowing me to keep a copy of a file on my iPod without needing to have the same file on my laptop's hard drive).

    So the iTunes update is fucked up. The taskbar minimenu is broken and doesn't pause/skip songs, and you have to DOUBLE CLICK to select multiple songs with SHIFT + ARROW KEY. I said "Fuck you apple" and rolled back to my previous version. ^^

    It occurred to me that I can't stop using iTunes entirely, because people keep giving me iTunes gift cards, and I might as well use them. :(
