    I agree that it can stink when other people misinterpret what you say. I feel like that is a pretty big problem online and really causes many other unfortunate things like flame wars.

    I am not so sure about solutions to that problem or how to avoid encountering it in the future. I would just try to be extra polite and clarify things as much as possible.

    Also, if someone insults you or is bothering you, I think that it is almost always better to tell a mod than to respond to him or her. In my experience, the latter just leads to more drama and could get you in trouble even when all you are trying to do is defend yourself.

    @Chagen: I have the same problem.  That's actually probably why I am slow to type responses, because I've learned the hard way being quick rarely helps my case.
