JRPGs where dead/KO'd/beaten monsters/enemies are not shown on screen (and can't even be targetted)

What if I wanted to revive them?

Comments

  • How many of them let you use revive spells/items on them, anyway?
  • So...which ones are the exception?
  • Why would you ever want to revive an enemy in the first place?

And if a monster can be revived (by some other monster, presumably, not by the player), that particular monster generally won't disappear after death.

I know FFTA leaves unconcious/dead characters on screen.  I haven't tried reviving them.

I know that dead monsters disappearing is all over the main series--strangely enough, even including those enemies that their allies target with Life and Life2 spells, such as the bombs boss in FFV.

FFTA doesn't really count, due to being a tactical RPG/TRPG/SRPG/whatever.  Unless that does count.  In which case, predictably enough, the first Final Fantasy Tactics also does that.  And you indeed can revive them, though I dunno why you'd want to.

Oh, Light Fantasy (and Nyan Nyan ga Nyan: Light Fantasy Gaiden) have the monsters turn into pots when they die (much like player characters do), so... they still sort of stay on screen.  Those aren't SRPGs, so... yeah.  I don't think you can revive the enemies though.

What's Light Fantasy and Nyan Nyan ga Nyan: Light Fantasy Gaiden?

JRPGs.  They're only in Japanese.  Light Fantasy is for the Super Famicom, and it's mostly a Dragon Quest ripoff (though with a different battle system) and it's not so great.  Nyan Nyan ga Nyan: Light Fantasy Gaiden is a Playstation game.  It's significantly different from the first game (and its sequel) but still not especially good, though it's not a Dragon Quest ripoff, at least.  The fact that I can't read Japanese doesn't help at all, though, and I haven't played very much of either of them.
  • FFTA2:GOTF ditched it in favour of monsters and enemies turning into loot. Sucked if you wanted to train your Blue Mage, or nick a Chocobo.

    > monsters and enemies turning into loot

Darnit, we're supposed to be able to go up to their bodies and spend a turn looting!
