  • You mean it wasn't always like that?

    Cry me a river, Myrmidon.
  • You can change. You can.
4c. If you don't like a thread, and have nothing meaningful to add to it, don't post in it.

What, that's a rule HERE now, too?

    k', fine.

But I still think he complains about it way too much.
  • You can change. You can.
    It's always been a rule.

Still, the point stands, if all you're gonna do is bitching about bitchiong then all you're really accomplishing is setting up shitty Inception/Yo dawg jokes.

As for Myr's complaint, I'm agreeing. I mean, it looks like the Trash Heap this days and you're barely able to hold a conversation there. Unlike the Trash Heap.

The entire site's like the trash heap nowadays.

    This is unsurprising.
  • It makes me sad. The places I hold the best conversations these days seems to be roleplaying and writer's,and the roleplaying conversations tend to be rather...in character.
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.

    If I
didn't know that you are talking about random thoughts, I'd think you
    talk about IJBM.
  • "Cry me a river, Myrmidon."

I'm just saying the thread is called Random Thoughts.

    Keyword being "Thoughts".
  • Likes cheesecake unironically.
Well, the name of the thread is actually "Post your random thoughts." Actually, that's not encouraging discussion, since the purpose of the thread is... well, random thoughts.

Although, while I do post my thoughts there, they are rarely random.
  • I just don't think that the current state of the thread is what J Bridge intended.
  • "Post your random thoughts."

"I just don't think that the current state of the thread is what J Bridge intended."

    "random thoughts"

    "intended"

    DOES NOT COMPUTE.

  • I'm not saying it should all be enlightened discussions about Proust and quantum physics. I just think I shouldn't be able to read ten pages of the thread and be unable to find a single coherent sentiment being voiced.
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.

    Loser
    Myrmidon,

I am not particularly familiar with "Random Thoughts" but I do think that most topics in Yack Fest do not tend to invite lengthy or focused discussions. I think OTC ones do, but I could understand if you had reservations posting there. Still, I do not think that Yack Fest is generally more about chatting with friends than anything else so I would not blame it too much for lacking sustained conversations.

    AHR,
It makes me sad. The places I hold the best conversations these days
seems to be roleplaying and writer's,and the roleplaying conversations
    tend to be rather...in character.

I think that the old IJBM was actually one of the best places on TV Tropes to have sustained discussions about various topics because it was not intimidating, did not have a super serious atmosphere, and was open to discussions in threads no matter who made them (well, at least most of the time). I imagine that now that it is gone it is at least somewhat tougher to have good conversations on TV Tropes.

That being said, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the current discussion in the Christian Tropers topic, so I wonder if Troper Covens can actually be a good place for that kind of stuff too.

The threads are, like, all jumbled up now. Some days the Trash Heap gets more activity than Troper Updates, and also has more coherent conversation that PYRT a lot of the time.

    It's weird.
