Biggest SNES cartridge: 48 Mb = 6 MB
Comments
Uncharted 2: 22 GB
L.A Noire: 23 GB
Heavy Rain: 20 GB
FFXIII: 20 GB
Katamari Forever: 10 GB
Bayonetta: 12 GB
Gran Turismo 5: 16 GB
God of War 3: 40 GB
Also, DS cartridges can go up to 512 MB.
Oops.
That said, seems like I'm just never going to bother with any of those last three games that are 20+ GB in size.
According to the team that is making MGS: Snake Eater 3D, Nintendo is giving them special 4gb cartridges (3DS can handle 8-10) Super Smash Bros 3D is set to use 6-8.
That said, I guess if you wanted to compare this to Playstation games, then you'd get several hundred megs each. Such as:
* Castlevania: Symphony of the Night: 556 MB
* Final Fantasy Tactics: 516 MB
* Mega Man Legends: 500 MB
And these are concurrent with the N64.
And the GameCube's special optical disc 1.4 GB.
To which I agree. I mean, I have Doom and Doom II, the expansion packs, and a CD packed full of WADs, Source Ports and Frontends, and that doesn't even fill the entire 650MB CD-R. That, my friends, is what you call "bang for your buck."
The space is mostly taken up by the graphical component of the game.
Though for what it's worth, the vast majority of the size of Dracula X: Rondo of Blood on the PC Engine (a.k.a. Turbografx) was actually CD-quality music, whose quality was lost on my ears anyway (apart from noticing that everything sounded way too aurally sharp).
I think music takes up a significant chunk of CvSotN's space too, as well as the space of various other games that use XA audio.
Also, guys. IF you're running into problems, just buy a 500Gb harddrive. They cost like...50$ after taxes.
