Love Interest Characters

edited 2011-06-25 09:22:46 in Media

Obviously, there's some confirmation bias involved (as well as personality bias), but I tend to notice there's an inverse correlation between how interesting a character is and how much the character happens to be a love interest. Not saying love interests cannot be interesting, but usually it's because the "love interest" part takes priority over everything else about the character. This is especially jarring when a not love interest character ends up fulfilling more of an emotional centre than the designated love interest (think Luna Lovegood compared to Ginny Weasley), though those cases do show why I tend to prefer the not love interest.

Related: damsel scrappies. Maybe that were romantic a long time ago, but whenever I see them, I think that heroes need better taste in girlfriends.

There should be something that has an uninterestuing designated love internet, but the protagonist dumps her for being boring.
