I love this show to death. So much its unholy. But as I rewatch it, a few things kinda irk me:
1. Daria as a character is kind of a bitch. A lot of her snark in the show is unwarranted, and at times, somewhat unprovoked. Many of those who receive said snark do nothing to deserve it, save for various one shot characters and Principal Li at her most Villain Ball-ish. She even goes out of her way to be a borderline Libby to her sister Quinn in the early episodes. Because she can, and it gets her off.
2. The rest of the characters, (save for Jane, Trent and Tom, some one shot characters) as it's been said before, hardly deserve whatever backhanded comment they get from Daria (or token characters Mack and Jodie). It doesn't matter if they ARE dumb as bricks. They rarely if ever target Daria or said token characters directly.
2a. There's too much focus on the bland secondary characters. It's gotten to the point where I'll fast forward to Daria's bits if the episode happens to focus on the Fashion Club or Brittany and Kevin.
2b. No one antagonizes or even rivals Daria as a character, except for maybe Tom indirectly, and Jane if she's feeling vitriolic. Of course Daria's gonna seem like such an awesome little cunt if everyone she walks past is a lobotomy patient in comparison.
3. I don't care what the fandom says, Tom Sloane and the show's shift into Dramedy territory was the best thing to happen to the show. Daria's shift from being a God Mode Snarky Sue to being utter out of her element despite her best efforts made for more watchability, in my opinion.

I think that comment applies to nearly every deadpan snarker, especially self-labeled ones in real life.
I like Daria though, and still haven't watched an episode of it yet.
reading the summaries and fan reactions. I tend to enjoy things if I can relate to somebody else's enjoyment of things.
I've never even read a fanfic, period.
Ah hell, I should probably give one a try. Lets just hope no one does what I like to call "Calling Your Sarcasm"
Watching the show again with a friend. He hates it. He hates it so much and I agree with his points.
Help.
