Threads of Fate

They call me Rate Miser, whatever I see... turns overrated in my eyes...
A few days ago I've finished the game with both Rue and Mint, and my verdict is "eh". It does have some good music, such as Reunion, and the game is inoffensive at worst, it's still too easy overall and there's some cheap moments like Gamul Forest. There's a few fans of this game here and there, so I wonder if anybody here who played this game.

I still have some weird fascination with the game, though that could be from its charm, the fact that I owned it for ages and wasn't able to beat it due to a glitch in my disc until I downloaded it from PSN, or both.

    How good is it?
  • I've played it.  I thought it was really good, mostly because, well, it had a lot of charm I guess.  Mint's story was fun and pretty enjoyable.  Rue's was kinda boring, but the actual gameplay for both characters was fun, so I didn't mind one of the stories not being very good.  That said, I thought it was weird that both characters' stories were more or less totally separate, and in fact contradict each other.  And then Rue's appears to be the canon one, which is not surprising but is disappointing.

Re canon: Could be worse.  Could be like Mega Man ZX, where you can only play as either Aile or Vent but canonically they actually collaborated and both appear in ZX Advent.

I didn't find it very good, although you can find some charm in its lighthearted story. Just don't expect that much challenge, especially as Rue. No, dying once for some boss battles doesn't equal challenge.

It can be funny at times, especially if you play as Mint whose main goal is world domination using the game's Macguffin, the Dewprism.

I played it, too. It really is charming. I don't care much for Rue's story, but I found Mint's really fun.

^ I usually don't even bother with crafting the first time I go through a game (unless I know what I'm doing), so I didn't bother with improving weapons, not realizing that was the game's equivalent of purchasing weapons. I got somewhat far through 1 damage attacks without knowing what the problem was, got up to the raft boss until I realized what was wrong.

Edit: I just saw a bunch of videos and music. I nostalgia'd hard.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
I played this a loooooooong time ago. I played through once as Mint, and afterwards didn't give enough of a damn to go through as Rue.

^ That might happen to me if I ever get the game.

It's almost definitely going to happen. I mean, its a Square game. They only tell one type of story and write five types of characters, and once you've seen what artifact of an ancient civilization is going to help the empire achieve global conquest today, there's not really much point seeing it from a slightly different perspective.
  • They're somethin' else.
I thought this game was Square's ripoff of Breath of Fire.

Breath of Fire was a platformer?
  • They're somethin' else.
I'm only saying that because of the redhead girl and dragon shapeshifter guy combo.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
IIRC he was an in-general shapeshifter, not dragons specifically.

And uhhh.... that doesn't necessarily make it a BOF ripoff.
  • They're somethin' else.
    I'm not entirely serious, either.

The game is very short, especially if you count only one character's story as a full playthrough. I finished Rue's story in around 6:30, and Mint's story clocked in at around 6:10 when her story's finished.
