Going to new fora

Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
And you want to be a part of the community but everything is new and strange and scary and overwhelming and you don't know anybody and you feel lost and alone and frightened.

^ It's funny because ponychan inspired this thread.
  • ^^This one has a hard time imagining you feeling lost or scared. Ever.

    Loser
    Forzare,

I think this can be even more annoying if you still feel that way even after being part of a site for a year or two. From what I can tell, having a hard time fitting in is a lot more common in forums that are large and/or full of social hierarchies (BZPower is one such forum in my opinion).

What bothers me even more than what you mentioned is when a forum's regulars are purposely mean to new users just because they are new. I understand that some prefer for a site to be a private club, but I feel like it is a better idea to try to at least be kind to new users in case it turns out that they actually contribute quite a bit to a forum. I suppose some people are more pessimistic about newbies though and I believe that is somewhat understandable.
