My dad won't let me install Firefox

Because for some reason, when he had it, it slowed down his computer and he said it tried to access his files.

There is no TvTropes ignore extension for Internet Explorer.

At least IE9 isn't as slow as previous versions :l

  • WHAT. How old are you for reference
  • Oh hey. you're like my family! I can't admit that either!
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Because for some reason, when he had it, it slowed down his computer
    Well, that's because it has memory leak issues.

    Try convincing him to get Chrome; it's made by Google, which he should have at least heard of.
  • I feel old now.
    Read the post, he won't use chrome because of the "evils" of webgl. I'm checking a few things out on a browser I use.

  • Grr, the browser I use has webgl enabled by default.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
    Oh, whoops, missed the bit about Chrome...

    Try one of the following browsers:
    * Opera
    * Safari
    * Epiphany
    * Konqueror
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.
    For some reason, its always a weird feeling when I find out that someone is younger than me.
  • ^^ No ignore extension, which is pretty much the only reason I need another browser. IE9 sucks significantly less than I expected.

  • Actually, I think the Firefox ignore extension works for Opera too, unless I'm misremembering.
  • Yeah, you should be able to use the Firefox ignore extension in Opera.  The only difference is that you install it somewhat differently.
  • If it helps at all, Snow, you aren't the only one who has these issues. My father *still* thinks that people are listening in to my Skype conversations and attempting to steal my identity at every moment whilst learning the layout of the house simply because I told someone where the bathroom is.

    I honestly hope that you can find a solution to your problem, if I can find an ignore extension for you, or at least another browser that would work, I will relay it to you if possible.

    ^ Challenge him by asking that how many people would want to steal that information and have the technical capability of actually doing so.

    Certain crimes don't happen or happen rarely not because they're not possible but because they're not worth the effort.
  • ^ I've actually tried that. It ended up being quite hilarious, albeit, a waste of time on my part. I would talk more about it, but it would seem rude to use someone else's thread to vent about my silly father. May make my own in the future, if things like that are allowed.

    .

  • Hm...whilst I can't think of any way to rebut that at the moment, may I ask, are there any other possible solutions that you can think of at the moment?

    Also, it would help me to know what an ignore extension is supposed to do, so that I may seek out other solutions for you.

    My mother is the exact same way.

    Not only that, but she also manages to fuck up even after she gets the better browser; somehow, after she got Opera, she ended up downloading some kind of bullshit slow-PC-fixer thing and blames the browser for putting it on her computer, even though I use the same browser and have never had that happen.

  • Was it Finally Fast? Because my little sister fell for that.

    Of course, this is the same little sister who formatted her hard drive because "It'll make my computer run faster!" and was then completely baffled by the fact that she couldn't get her games and music back.
  • Your parents are not very tech savvy and they blame their mistakes on the browsers they use...I feel sorry for you guys, at least my parents absolutely trust my computing decisions. (because they have like none)

    ^^ No, but it might as well have been.

    ^ To make it worse, she thinks she's tech-savvy because she worked on computers in the 80s and 90s, therefore she knows more than me.

  • My father is like that, albeit, not even that excuse works due to him still having a job in IT.

    It makes arguing with him about these things annoying.
