Would they sell in this day and age? I know imitating the similar artstyles would bring in fans, and good writing can make a show prosper, but in general, would this kind of animation style catch on in america, or is it better for America to leave the Anime/Manga artstyle in Japan and continue making their own?

  • Glaives are better.

If it's  new and shocking, it'll probably attract more attention, and therefore sell more.

    $80+ per session
Avatar, Teen Titans, The Boondocks, Genndy Tartakovsky's work...seems to be doing okay to me.
  • The Boondocks is animated in South Korea.
  • So are most other cartoons.

Presumably, only the in-betweens are done there, so that doesn't really count.  Or... it does, but that's not uncommon for animation from any country.

    ^ Or that.

Well if it's written and what not primarily in America.
  • Yeah, the only part that gets farmed out to South Korean studios is usually the in-between frames of the animations.  All the writing, voices, keyframe animation, post-production, etc.  Is generally done in whatever country is responsible for the show (in this case America).

Do we have any animation studios here in America that made anything notable?

    Erin eSurance doesn't count.

  • $80+ per session
    Define notable.

Like, isn't an obscure commercial or a one episode show that was canned.
  • You can change. You can.
I'd dare say Disney and/or Pixar. But I know shit about animation and how it is produced, so I'm probably wrong.
  • $80+ per session
Disney, Pixar, Hanna-Barbera, Cartoon Network studios. All American.
  • We Played Some Open Chords and Rejoiced, For the Earth Had Circled the Sun Yet Another Year
I don't think Cartoon Network has an in-house studio, unless you wanna count Williams Street.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    ^^ Don't forget NIckelodeHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
  • $80+ per session
    Uh, yeah Nickelodeon counts to.
  • Except they do all of their animation in Korea. Or is that what we're talking about here?
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Well, my implication was that Nickelodeon does almost no animation anymore. Which is true.

    Fucking Spengbab.
  • $80+ per session
    Nicktoons Network.
  • Yup, Nicktoons. Also that one show they still have that's pretty much the best thing I've seen this decade. (not spengbab)
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
^^ Which is reruns, I assume?

    /has not watched
  • $80+ per session
Actually, almost all original. Also, Avatar Legend of Korra is coming soon.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Might check it out if there's nothing on. Which, considering I'm generally entertained by the Science Channel, will never happen.

Then again, I am expecting great things out of Korra. If Nick fucks it up, I'm swearing them off.

    Also, totally relevant:

  • We all know in our heart of hearts that Johnny Depp has a bigger surfboard than all of us combined.
  • no longer cuddly, but still Edmond
Would they sell in this day and age?

Yes, if they're good (or people are bored enough).

I don't think anyone nowadays will watch a cartoon just because it looks like anime. It has to have more going for it.
