She is like, so incredibly smart. I am in awe at the breadth of her wisdom and experience demonstrated in Atlas Shrugged. Clearly, she is a goddess of rationality. I mean, to think I used to believe in such garbage as scientific peer review. Through Hank Rearden, she showed me that all you need is to trust that your revolutionary new material will work, regardless of what those uneducated organized losers think. And her talent in agriculture! I would have thought farming would be hard work, but she makes it look trivial! Then there's her taste in music. Oh, I can almost hear that mathematically perfect concerto! Her debating skills are so transcendental that everyone is completely unable to argue against her, and her philosophy? Forget all those other mentally masturbating morons, she only uses pure reason. I'm betting with her rationality, she put all the mathematicians of the world to shame. All hail the Ubermensch Rand!

Abridged: Ayn Rand is really, really egotistic.
"When translated from Jargonese, Rand is attempting to say that "altruism" is acting like a doormat and only working for others without consideration of one's own needs. Naturally, few people actually have such a view on life; even fewer do who actually practice altruism. In Oldspeak, altruism is simply acting to benefit humanity. Like most straw men, the "Altruist" movement feared by Randroids cannot defend itself because it doesn't exist. While Auguste Comte actually did advocate something like this ("live for others"), people wisely declined to obey his dictum."
Also, Atlas Shrugged contains, among other things, rich industrialists whining about being persecuted by society, protagonists that express their individuality through joining a cult, a tunnel disaster where everyone's death is justified by them daring to think socialist thoughts, the infamous 60 page long speech (which is bad by itself, but what's in the speech is worse. It's basically "Existence exists" and "A is A" repeated a whole bunch of times in different guises), and claims that disabled people don't deserve help because they only let the strong down.
That place is a biased hellhole of Radical Athiests. I want a real source of info, not a look into the sad lives of basement dweller Atheists.

Because they believed they were on the receiving end of tall poppy syndrome and that all their wealth and ideas would be leeched from them.
At least in-universe, their whining is justified.
The Fountainhead does a way better job of explaining her beliefs, even if those beliefs include "It's better to be a rapist than a doormat".
