As a classical music fan, it bugs me that pop music dominates music discussions.

  • You can change. You can.
Welp, it's bound to happen. It is way much more merchandised
  • I thought "pop" basically meant "popular music right now" which would pretty much most likely make that the default.

    Also it's more, well... popular.

^ And, depending on the context, it can actually mean more like "everything except classical and folk".

To elaborate, mostly it's because classical music focuses on the instrumentation and the interplay of melody, (maybe) countermelodies, and harmony. This makes it harder for me to see eye-to-eye with pop music discussions, which are more focused on lyrics and the personalities involved.
  • a little muffled
"Popular music" can mean everything except classical and folk (and soundtracks), but "pop music" isn't the same thing.
  • Ah, right, yeah.  That.

^^^ Those features are just as applicable to any type of music, though.
  • You can change. You can.
Yeah, it's not as if, say, The Beatles song are exactly lacking on composition. Or stuff like Stanley Jordan's entire catalogue

Exactly. Sturgeon's Law still applies, it just happens that much of the 90% crap permeates radio stations.
