IJBM: ANOTHER reason to hate S*ny...
... I'd somehow forgotten that they bought Psygnosis in 1999.
Y'know... Psygnosis. The company that made Lemmings.... and the WipEout games. The only racing games I ever enjoyed.
S*ny bought the company in 1999, changed it to "SCE Studio Liverpool" (seriously, what kind of a lame-arse name is that?) ... and consequentially all the WipEout games that followed were S*ny-console exclusive...... No more to be found on any console I'll ever own. -_-;
Why must they either steal or destroy everything beautiful? WHY?
Shit... getting too close to seriousness. Feeling nauseous.
Comments
...shit.
^^ Fuck their stupid brand. If I had a company that bought other companies, I'd just let them keep their original cool name. Psygnosis had an awesome name and an awesome logo... and S*ny killed both of them.
"The company that made Lemmings...."
No, that's DMA Design (aka: Rockstar North), Psygnosis only published them.
I'm more peeved that after the rebranding, Psygnosis was reduced to whoring those Formula 1 games yearly (along with the occasional Wipeout sequel), which was quite sad considering their insane creativity and output during the Amiga and Playstation era. Then Sony fired everyone important after they made Fury. And now, they're making a new Wipeout afterall but it's apaprently going the Burnout/Motorstorm route.
welp. still better than what happened to Raven Software, I suppose.
What you say about formula 1 games.... well, naturally I understand that. EA did much the same sort of thing to Bullfrog after buying them. A very similar story. Excellent gaming company chomped up by a huge corporate beast and forced to make crap.
You know what bugs me?
Chris Avellone, Casey Hudson, Richard Garriott, John Romero and Drew Karpyshyn, the makers of my favorite games, are all either owned by the biggest developers (like EA), not working, or working on handheld casual projects. The best developers in the world. And at best, their talent goes unappreciated by their employers.
I guess I'm okay with Casey Hudson working on Mass Effect 3, but it's too much of a third person shooter at this point, without the benefit of multiplayer or other play modes.
Oh why bother? Hatter is just a n idiot who will keep saying what he wants regardless of how stupid it is.
OH YOU.
I'm not saying that the focus should be on multiplayer. Bungie has almost always focused on multiplayer with the Halo games, and I found that disappointing because the story languished. But multiplayer SHOULD be in a shooter, even if there are strong RPG elements.
BioWare has put the focus on action ever since Mass Effect 2. I'm okay with this. The action is all good. But multiplayer adds replay value, and, strangely enough, I HAVE FRIENDS I'D LIKE TO PLAY WITH. Fighting Cerberus or the Collectors would be even more fun with a friend playing with you, and if you could play online multiplayer deathmatches, I'd chalk it up as the best third person action-RPG ever.
You may disagree with my opinions, but you can't honestly say that I don't think about them.
Do they incidentally happen to be the girls you wish would bump you out of the friendzone?
Every game they make now is the same tired formula being re-used over and over again.
The strange thing is that most other of the few WRPGs around are either Bethesda games (yay) or others trying to copy Bethesda's style (booo). Bioware's style of games is actually more similar to the pattern found in JRPGs...
But to the point... yeah.... they're trying to go into shooter territory because they honestly don't know how to do RPGs differently to the way they've always done them. I reckon either they should learn how to do a different style of RPG... or just give up altogether. They're EA's bitches, so I doubt they'll innovate anything.... SO I expect they just ought to give up. The world doesn't need more stupid shooty games.
Doesn't need more multiplayer games either. That is just an excuse to avoid making a plot. Most multiplayer games have all the entertainment value of taking turns poking at each other through a hole in a wall. Only the relatively few purely cooperative ones have any value...
Oh, and Lemmings was a DMA Design (now Rockstar North) game.
Studio Liverpool has bigger problems than Sony-exclusive games. They've
turned from one of the most famous British developers in the Amiga days
to an assembly line for Wipeout games and Formula 1. And now that F1 is gone, it's just Wipeout. Forever.
Why? What happened to Raven?
Why? What happened to Raven?
Activision sacked most of their staff after the failure of Singularity and now they're reduced to making COD map packs.
Seriously, might pick up a 3DS sometime... if they come out with a really, really REALLY compelling reason (IE, a game I really want to play) for it.
