@Gelzo: What really perplexes me is that most of the time, they're not interested in the actual relationship, but the unresolved sexual tension. If shipping was more about two lovers actually being together, it might be more interesting, but I often get the (misguided) impression of a "happily ever after" ending.
One of the reasons I loved Shrek 2 was that it showed that there's still a hell of a lot left to work out after a couple gets together.
