    You can change. You can.
But that's not small, is it?

Night Owl's missing the days of superheroing is basically his whole character arc, which touches with all the other charcters at the end in Alaska and what makes him vote in favor of Ozymandias winning.

that's different, from say, knowing that a mechanic killed himself in 1920 because he was laughed off. Or knowing what a bunch of citizens are doing in their free time.

that only touches on the other aspect of Watchmen, which is the whole "Is life sacred or should it be sacrificed for sacred purposes?" which is not the plot, but the philosophical statement behind the plot.

^ while true, it's not like only the six main characters are developed, now are they?
  • But it contributes to the tension and the problems of those characters and the plot at hand.
  • You can change. You can.
Again, how does knowing any of the situations I've mentioned do that? Because, honestly, knowing what Night Owl 1 was like in his childhood was interesting, it didn't have any incidence on the plot and characters at hand.
  • The world that was being lived in. homophobic, violent, the reason Veidt wanted to go all alien on him.

    You can change. You can.
...but that's hardly the reason Veidt did what he did. Ozymandias decided to unleash the squid so he could make everyone join in harmony to avoid war. Nixon and the USRR were hardly involved in that suicide, as far as I know.

And it's not as if Ozymandias even cared enough about people to avoid killing them.

I think I'm with AHR on this one. I guess you would need the definition of plot.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Also, it was Antarctica, not Alaska.

    You can change. You can.
I'm just quoting my screenwriting professor. -shrug-

Although he did say that this kinda thing is subjective anyway, but I do support his POv as I find it unreasonable to believe that characterization and plot are mutually incluive/exclusive.

^ I read it about three years ago. honest to goodness, I only remember liking those details precisely because they were unnecessary or relevant.
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
So you take the word of a guy who's trained in the art of storytelling as a source of insight?
  • Better than taking the word of someone who isn't trained in the art of storytelling at all?
  • Woki mit deim Popo.
    You mean like Fanfic writers?
  • $80+ per session
    Or just regular writers.
  • You can change. You can.
So you take the word of a guy who's trained in the art of storytelling as a source of insight?

Well, the guy is indeed someone who writes scripts for a living, so I don't see why I shouldn't.
