I've only read a little bit of the manga so I'm not that well-acquainted with the series, but for some reason, I just really want to punch Haruhi in the face.

Endless Eight only intensifies this feeling, despite me never having watched or read it.

    ^^^I don't hate it because of anyone else's opinion (or due to seeing it everywhere), it's mainly just having found it a bit boring when I tried to get into it and really hating the main character.

    I'll probably give the anime a try sometime later.

    The manga is pretty bad. Well, I have a volume, and the artwork is horrendous, so you'd be better off watching the anime or reading the books, I'd imagine.

    And wanting to punch Haruhi in the face is perfectly normal. Part of the joke of the series is that such a bitch is essentially a god.

    I only read the first light novel, and am considering reading the others, but I wasn't impressed, so I'm going to find better things to do.

    Well if you don't like the main character, I can't imagine that changing when you watch the anime.

    That said, I didn't dislike Haruhi.

    I do strongly dislike Yuki though, and I feel like mentioning this every time I enter a discussion about the Haruhi series.

    Can't agree with DYRE more, I don't really like Yuki either.

    That said, Haruhi is indeed supposed to be a sort of bitch (Come on, the girl blackmails, sexually harasses and continously bullies people)

    Personally, I like it the same way I like Blackadder. (Really dislikeable protagonist in any other context but that where she's relatively likeable)

    As an aside, I think I'm one of the only people out there who actually liked Mikuru. But then, I'm shallow and have no shame about liking moe stuff (or harem anime. Or sex comedies. Or a bunch of other stuff people don't like . . .), even when that's all there is to a character, so eh.

    And Yuki bores me.

    I don't really like the cast, honestly. Except for Mikuru, and maybe Itsuki.

    Only really likeable character is Kyon if you ask me. Itsuki is too ridiculously mysterious, Mikuru is too damn moe...literally, Haruhi is too much of a jerk and Yuki is just another emotionless girl.

    So...yeah.

    Obvious question: Have you finished the series?

    Obvious observation: that's why I compared her to Blackadder. They are both flat. This doesn't make them bad characters. The Doctor is flat, Superman is flat, Batman is flat, Sherlock Holmes is flat, I could go on and on.
