Unless this is about some previously unknown distasteful viewpoint giving the creator's writing a much different context (like, say, an aesop that turns out to be racist), this seems pointless. You would enjoy it just fine if the creator was rainbows and sunshine in meatspace, why let someone take your enjoyment away like that?

Anyway, to go on with the topic. When it comes to good works, I tend to agree, how good a person the author is doesn't really matter. However, when the work is bad/not very good, an author with an attitude can easily make it terrible, while a nice and/or self-aware guy will render it inoffensive in my eyes.
