The application of Complete Monster to people.

I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
Everyone is human, an humans can do terrible things.
However these never stop them from being a human.

Dehumanising them seems like a weak attempt to try and distance yourself from the fact humans are capable of a lot of things.

Whilst Savage Heathen has done it, and I quoted him doing it, he merely reminded me of the grievance, it isn't specifically about him.

Complete Monster applied to real life is very hard due to how many people worship serial killers.

I don't really see a reason as to why we should assume a human is incapable of being anything that detaches from what is commonly considered good though.

I mean I don't think Adolf Hitler is a complete monster, but that doesn't mean it is impossible for no one to be able to.

I've never been able to see how referring to people like this is particularly bad or hurts anyone, and most of the people who are against it just seem kind of butthurt to me.

It implies they are incapable of what society commonly perceives as good, motivation-wise.

^^ For me it is the dehumanising and distancing aspect.

^ I'd say it comes across as more the majority of society is incapable of those actions.

"I'd say it comes across as more the majority of society is incapable of those actions."

I'm going to try to interpret that in a way you would have intended it to be.

"People saying most of society are a bunch of monsters which can't do good things, is what bugs me."

In which case, sure, i'd agree with you.

    ^ Ok for clarification:

I meant it comes across that society in general is incapable of such terrible acts (rather than the acts perceived as good) due to the designation of nonhumanity/complete-monster.

    Uhh...that confuses me more.

"society in general is incapable of such terrible acts"

    "because they are monsters"

    I'm reading it like that.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    Ok then I'll try harder :) :

When someone is designated as a complete monster, they tend to be removing the person's 'humanity' as well. Thus implying that the majority of society/humanity are distanced/incapable of committing whatever actions lead to the designation of CM.
  • Okay so,

    "Society can't be that bad!"

"Therefore that guy is a monster, not a human like us!"

"Humans are good and cannot commit evils without losing their humanity!"?
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
    Kind of yes.
  • The majority of Americans probably won't kill their family next month.

However they are capable of it.

Just the variables behind why are different.
