Typeface names have No Pronunciation Guide

edited 2011-02-01 01:13:09 in General
I didn't know the proper pronunciation of "Neutraface" until the "Neutra Face" video appeared on YouTube and a correcting comment was made.

I still don't know the proper pronunciation of "Calibri" or "Lucida".

/stupid thread, needed to get out of system

  • I would read "Neutra" as "neutral" without the L, "Calibri" with the "cali" from "California" and "brie" like the cheese, and "Lucida" as the word "lucid" plus a schwa.

I wonder how close I am.
  • ...what?

Can you explain in more detail?

Neutraface is named for architect Richard Neutra (pronounced "noy-trah"). Calibri's name is probably derived from "calibrate", as it was designed to test out Microsoft's ClearType. Lucida, I have no clue.

I think that's too many syllables.
  • Because you never know what you might see.
Not unless you read "sion" as two syllables.

  • ha ha glenn your a plagiarist :P
  • Ok, I may be font-obsessed, but at least I'm not makin' things like that.

...Though I did sit and watch that entire video.
  • Wait a minute...I don't think "punctuation" was the word you wanted, there.
  • OHHHHHHHHHHHHHH...

    Okay, NOW it makes sense.
  • I wanted to point this out a while ago, but I thought it was intentional.

Not sure why it'd be intentional, but I dunno.
