Being ninja'd

You find a thread you want to reply to.  It hasn't been replied to in at least a few minutes, but it's not old enough to count as necromancy.  You type up a reply and post.  In the 30 seconds or so it took, there have been like 5 replies.

Then X happens (a new webcomic page, there's a rumor that a famous terrorist died, etc.), and you want to make a thread about it.  You check to see if someone made a thread about it.  But you don't want to be wrong, so you double check your facts.  Then you type up an OP.  You check the forum again and there's still no thread on it.  You post.  You check back one minute later to see if you got any replies.  There are now 3 threads on X, all started within a couple seconds of each other.

Then Y happens.  You don't want to make a thread about it because you're waiting for someone else to do it.  But no one is posting.  10 minutes go by, and no one has posted.  Maybe you're the only one who knows about Y.  The forum needs a thread on Y, so you make one.  There are now 3 threads on Y, all started within a couple seconds of each other.

  • If you must eat a phoenix, boil it, do not roast it. This only encourages their mischievous habits.
Spend all this time writing up a reply, only to have it all be irrelevant.
