My netbook is still non-functional.

Long story short: my brothee got my netbook infected with viruses. When I tried to delete them with anti-malware ( reliable and trusted anti-malware), they decided to enact one final dick move and delete my Windows system 32 file. So now my Netbook is a shiny brick. I wanted to simply have someone wipe the computer completely and start from scratch, but my dad asked a shop, and they said it would be around $150-$250 to do it. That much to simply wipe a computer and start from scratch. If I knew how to do this, I would myself, but I don't. Wtfisthisshit.jpg

  • Wiping computers is easy (not that I'd know how), look for a tutorial somewhere on the web.
  • I think that may have been the cost of putting Windows back on. As my windows installation is fucked.

And my netbook doesn't have a disk drive, so no using a windows disk to install.
  • Your brother did this? Have him pay, or else smack the git with the netbook until he bleeds. Disregard the latter part of that sentence.
  • He filled it with porn. Some of the sites must've had malware.

I never looked at the porn. Mainly because it had some very fucked up titles, includong one supposedly being a video of a woman giving a blowjob to a horse....

And I still had a repressed sexuality back then.

I dunno how to wipe stuff clean, and I'd blame your brother if he's the one who filled it with porn--porn sites are notorious for containing shitware.

That said, once you do wipe it clean, you can either reinstall Windows on it or install Linux, which is much less susceptible to viruses due to the fact that few people write Linux viruses since few people use it.
  • Your netbook is screwing up, too?

    Also, sorry about that.
  • Damn, we should set up a thread where we can discussed tried and proven anti-virus and anti-malware techniques.
  • I did use good anti-malware, and it did get rid of the viruses, but they did one last "fuck you" in deleting the system32 file.

Unless the anti-malware was actually malware in disguise....that would be one crazy Xanatos Gambit, though.
  • Who/what deleted the system32 folder.
  • The viruses. As I deleted them. At least, as far as I can tell.

You didn't registry-wipe them did you?
  • I assumed the anti-malware would do that.
  • What did you use this netbook for. If its not windows specific, the best bet for recovery would be installing a linux distro, like Ubuntu off a thumb drive. It would be a difficult change but you should eventually get used to it.
  • Most of my programs on my portable hard drive are meant for Windows, though. A gamer like me just isn't fit for Linux.

....Well, it's not like this thing could play many games, but I got Touhou and Trackmania Nations to play on it and have a pretty good frame rate. If there's a way to run Windows programs on Linux....

And I still have a lot linux sterotypes in my mind--it takes forever to do anything, it's impossible to use if you don't have three degrees in computer programming, all the users are assholish mouth-breathing neckbeard fucks who take GIFT to the highest level possible, etc.

I view installing new anti-malware, unless it's from a very trusted source, to be swallowing a spider to catch a fly.
  • I trusted this place, though. There was quite of lot of people who said it worked for them.
  • Don't bother with linux then, I needed to know if it was used for playing games or not. The usability of Linux has gotten better, it is still a pain to do things. I would have recommend something call MalwareBytes to take care of it. It is a stand alone program and is one of the few things that can take care some of the more evil malware like the MS Antivirus malware.

@Chagen: Well, there's the Windows emulator Wine.  Works with many (though not all) programs.

As for Linux, get yourself a distro like Ubuntu.  It's community is quite supportive; it has forums and IRC channels where you can get help.  In fact, those are the tech support (if you want professional tech support, check out Red Hat, but that will cost you).

/me has Ubuntu running on a backup computer, though I rarely use it
