When Large Scale/Natural Laws/Ideals are Applied to Small Scale/Social Situations

Fighting for the growth of the philosophy topic.

It just doesn't work. The two things I see this happen the most with are Machiavelli and the Theory of Evolution. The Prince was about government ideas. It's not meant to be applied to social situations (nevermind that people don't really know what the message of that book is). Social Darwinism is just scary.

I have heard that too. I read The Art of War and, as much as I liked it, I have NO IDEA why anybody would expect it to help them in business.

Well, it's technically correct, if you're talking about global averages.  In other words, it's only correct if you're not forgetting either term.

I've always thought that as long as every individual person does whatever seems right for a situation, stuff would turn out okay.  Has anyone here read Lord of the Flies?
