Selective Fighting Game Clone Count

They're somethin' else.
Why is it that we can have like over 7 characters with the same fighting style (Shoto), but having another Zangief or Blanka in the same game is considered redundant? What the fuck's with that?! And for reference, see for yourself how many Shoto based fighters there are in Streetfighter:

Ryu
Evil Ryu
Ken
Akuma
Shin Akuma
Dan
Sakura
Gouken
Oni
Sean

Sagat is borderline. In fact, in story he made his Tiger Uppercut to rival the Shoryuken. What the hell.

Same thing with The King of Fighters. Kyo Clones. My god.

    Ryu and Ken were originally made at the same time because you couldn't choose two of the same character. Akuma was like a "dark counterpart" of Ryu and Dan is THE BEST CHARACTER EVER.

    Nobody else has any excuse. Especially Evil Ryu.

    Actually, Ryu and Ken were Player 1 and Player 2 respectively in the original game. But them being the exact same character  in The World Warrior while everyone else is stand alone was inexcusable.
