Noim: Well, he is a lawyer. He works for my county's Appraisal District, defending them against lawsuits from clients who believe their house is appraised too high ( and as such, are paying too high taxes for it).

I've read too many articles about shitty things like this for another to
    faze me.

Ugh, I felt sick reading that.

^ Right. I've read a load too, but it doesn't stop fazing me. I'm not going to pretend I don't care just to sound edgy.

It's not that I don't care, it's just that i've become used to it at this point. I don't expect humans to be what I consider good in the first place anyway. Is your heart wrenched every time someone says "starving kids in africa"?
  • You can change. You can.
I wasn't particularly shocked. It was disturbing, though. Not because it was something new to me (Newsflash anyone: This shit is happening everywhere) but because...well...empathy and shit.

Yeah, of course I'm only saying that to sounds dark, evil and edgy. Not because, it's simply the truth, no absolutely not.

  • "^^What about the one who actually helped out with the torture?"

Agreeing with Morven here. Fear of reprisal from an abusive parent is hard to overcome for any child, even when they don't have explicit evidence of the insane lengths their parents are willing to go as they did in this case.
  • They're somethin' else.
I'm disturbed by my growing sense of apathy, lets put it that way. This is also not the first time I've read a thing like this. I'm greatly disturbed by the fact that this isn't disturbing me as much.

    Confusing, I know.
  • Feeling apathy towards this is just a sign of overexposure to such stories. If it ever occurred even remotely in the vicinity of any of those posters, they would be shocked and horrified just like everyone else. A news story, especially text, just doesn't carry that much power, especially if you're conscious of how the article is constructed to skid over some of the nastier details or to mention peculiarities as if they compare to the sheer nastiness of the timespan and regular torment that the kid endured.
  • What.

    The.

    Fuck.
