Cell Phones

I had a debate with my dad earlier, over whether or not cell phones are even relevant anymore. He said that no matter where you're going, there will always be a land line. And for every 10 friends you have, 9 of them will have a cell phone you can use. But I still find myself being perfectly content paying for my cell phone, and the packages that come with it. Do you have a cell phone? If so, which one? Why do you have this phone, and what are it's pros and cons that make it worthwhile? What company do you use? Are you ok with how much you're being charged? Would you rather cut costs and rely on a land line, or keep your cell phone?

  • Is this the dad that died, or the other one?

  • Vorpy,
Do you have a cell phone? If so, which one?
I have some random Motorola TracFone (i.e. prepaid minutes).

Why do you have this phone, and what are it's pros and cons that make it worthwhile?
I have that type of phone because I generally do not make enough personal calls for it to make sense for me to have any kind of unlimited plan and I am not really into text messaging or doing other fancy things with my phone like going online or playing games. I guess its limited features are one of its disadvantages as is the fact that you have to keep buying more minutes.

What company do you use? Are you ok with how much you're being charged?

Well, TracFone apparently uses AT&T/T-Mobile or Verizon depending on what kind of phone you have, but I am not sure which one my phone uses since I only actually pay TracFone. I am fine with how much I am being charged.

Would you rather cut costs and rely on a land line, or keep your cell phone?
I like the idea of having a land line, but I think that having a cell phone is very handy in emergencies or in places like airports where trying to deal with a pay phone may be a bit of a hassle.
  • Do you have a cell phone?

    Yes.

    If so, which one?

It's an old Samsung flip - top model

Why do you have this phone, and what are it's pros and cons that make it worthwhile?

Mostly for emergencies, or when I'm outside, etc., when I get a truly important call that can't wait.

    What company do you use?

    Sprint

Are you ok with how much you're being charged?

No, I think it's too much for how little I use it.

Would you rather cut costs and rely on a land line, or keep your cell phone?

Probably not.  I consider it risky driving or walking alone after dark without a phone.

  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
Do you have a mobile phone? If so, which one?
    Old samsung slidey one.
Why do you have this phone, and what are it's pros and cons that make it worthwhile?
Texting people, contact when outdoors, emergencies etc.
    What company do you use?
    Orange
Are you ok with how much you're being charged?
Yes, not on a contract for this old thing, PAYG. So yeah prettygood prices esp with bonuses for topping up.
Would you rather cut costs and rely on a land line, or keep your mobile phone?
Keep mobile, as I only need to pay in effect to make out going communications, so I could use it as a landline without paying any line rental for cheaper.
  • Meh I never used it so i shifted the burdon over to an employee of my dads a couple years back I only ever used it for rare instances of long distance calls but not much anymore.
