I thought Google Video got shut down. Why can I still watch so many videos on it? Is it just not allowing new submissions anymore, or will all those videos vanish into the aether at some point in the future?

Because they own YouTube, and they need someplace to put them all.

Originally it was a video uploading site. Then they introduced the ability to find videos on other sites. Then they bought YouTube and eliminated the ability to upload videos to GV, but retained existing ones and the ability to use it for searching.
