    While an opinion can't be refuted, it can certainly be criticized, particularly if it's based on wrong assumptions.

    I'm kinda guilty of overusing refute, and it's not like I even find the word particularly euphonious. To be fair, it's better than accidentally spelling it as 'refure' and NOT BEING ABLE TO EDIT BECAUSE YOU HAVEN"T GOT AROUND TO GETTING IE9 DAMMIT! Or even Firefox, with the cute little rounded corners on the drop-down boxes for trope categories.
