This animation is absolutely depressing and horrifying.

I think the idea is that the Wii killed what was good about Nintendo, but given how the animation was presented, I could easily be completely wrong.
I thought it was rather silly how it tried to make families enjoying playing the Wii look like a bad thing. I thought the obvious dissonance between the sad music, the sephia-like color tinting, and happy people playing video games was especially strange. I have a hard time understanding why Mario (as Nintendo) would dislike seeing people enjoy playing video games, but your mileage may vary there I guess.
I thought the Reggie Fils-Aime part was kind of funny though. I might use that "character" in an avatar some day.
^^ Don't say stuff like "horrors of horrors" and "daring to". Anyone who says stuff like that looks like a douchebag.
On topic: I skimmed through the whole thing and, reading what it's supposed to be about, it probably won't make a lot more sense in context than out of context.
"I think the idea is that the Wii killed what was good about Nintendo,"
People that say that seem to forget that the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2, and Nintendo still sunk lower in sales. And of course, we have the ill-fated, yet well-received Sega Dreamcast.
compared to what, snake? Compare New Mario Bros Wii to the first few
mainstream mario games, which one is more complex? How about Galaxy?
Galaxy is an amazing game, no way near as simple as games from my
childhood anyway. Remember sonic? you never knew why you were playing
sonic, you just did. Which sounds fantastic, but it really isn't.
Standards have risen, we expect depth now.
Still though, it's not that Nintendo is shooting for casual gamers that bugs me, it's that they're doing it to the exclusion of everything else. Sadly, gems like Mario Galaxy are relatively few and far between compared to the minigame shovelware.
