This animation is absolutely depressing and horrifying.

Thought the horrifying animation was pretty cool, but what was the point of that, exactly?
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
That Nintendo is turning into a horrifyingly disgusting company by... horrors of horrors... daring to have success with the Wii and appealing to more than hardcore gamers. It's as if a band of casual gamers murdered his family or something.

Thought, to be fair, that would make for a pretty bitchin' superhero.

    Gelzo,

I think the idea is that the Wii killed what was good about Nintendo, but given how the animation was presented, I could easily be completely wrong.

I thought it was rather silly how it tried to make families enjoying playing the Wii look like a bad thing. I thought the obvious dissonance between the sad music, the sephia-like color tinting, and happy people playing video games was especially strange. I have a hard time understanding why Mario (as Nintendo) would dislike seeing people enjoy playing video games, but your mileage may vary there I guess.

I thought the Reggie Fils-Aime part was kind of funny though. I might use that "character" in an avatar some day.

^^ Don't say stuff like "horrors of horrors" and "daring to". Anyone who says stuff like that looks like a douchebag.

On topic: I skimmed through the whole thing and, reading what it's supposed to be about, it probably won't make a lot more sense in context than out of context.

  • Well have some courtesy and be an entertaining one.
  • "I think the idea is that the Wii killed what was good about Nintendo,"

People that say that seem to forget that the Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2, and Nintendo still sunk lower in sales. And of course, we have the ill-fated, yet well-received Sega Dreamcast.

I really don't know what hardcore fans have against casual gamers, they're just people that want to play sometimes with fun simple games; if Nintendo can't give the same old feel to its classic characters it's because their historical fans doesn't want any new good game, they want their childood back, but that's impossible, no one can do it. Deal with it. If Mario or other heroes may looks like zombies it's because HC fans won't accept that they're grew up now

You copypasted that from the comment, didn't you?
  • @Locriannightmare
compared to what, snake? Compare New Mario Bros Wii to the first few
mainstream mario games, which one is more complex? How about Galaxy?
Galaxy is an amazing game, no way near as simple as games from my
childhood anyway. Remember sonic? you never knew why you were playing
sonic, you just did. Which sounds fantastic, but it really isn't.
Standards have risen, we expect depth now.
  • I lol'd at Reggie Fils-Aime.

Still though, it's not that Nintendo is shooting for casual gamers that bugs me, it's that they're doing it to the exclusion of everything else.  Sadly, gems like Mario Galaxy are relatively few and far between compared to the minigame shovelware.

Could that be because they generate more revenue and are easier to make?

    Naw.

Anyway they're at least still releasing things like Pokemon with the same regularity they always have. I dunno if you count that as hardcore, though.
  • I get why it's a viable business strategy, it's just depressingly hollow.  It's the same reason that it's not particularly satisfying to live off Ramen even if it's really cheap.
  • It was horrifying for a while.

    Then it got to Miyamoto-Bowser.
