Hey, look on the bright side, it means the game has difficulty levels.
  • a little muffled
I used Torchic every time I played through Ruby and Emerald and never had any particular trouble.
  • But you never had any to begin with.
Tate and Liza will tear you apart no matter what starter you use.
  • Swampert kind of tears their Lunatone/Solrock duo a new one.

Think of it this way.  If half the gym leaders weren't stacked against Torchic, nobody would ever choose anything else.  I mean kung fu fire chicken.  Seriously.
  • I still think Sceptile is the coolest starter.
  • I think the anime is the only reason I like Sceptile.  Blaziken is standalone badass, Sceptile needed writing to inject the badass.
  • a little muffled
Blaziken used to be my favourite; I now prefer Sceptile but I haven't replayed a Hoenn game in ages (mostly due to no longer owning any).

The only thing the makes me care about the Treecko line is the plot of PMD: Explorers of Time/Darkness/Sky.
  • Writer, Artist, Obscure.
Blaziken was perfectly viable in Emerald. Difficult, but worked just fine. though my Manetric, Tropius, and Pelliper helped quite a bit.

Yeah, exactly. The way you guys are talking it's as if you don't get five other Pokémon.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
Tate and Liza team in Emerald is evil. They have a fucking Claydol with Earthquake and a Xatu. Then Lunatone and Solrock.
  • Wattson's team is worse. At least by the time you've gotten to Tate and Liza you have access to a wide variety of tools for dealing with them. Unless you've got Geodude/Graveler or Marshtomp he's going to tear into you. Particularly since Magneton's typing means that most of the attacks you have aren't gonna do shit.

  • Give us fire! Give us ruin! Give us our glory!
You're forgetting that Combusken is part fighting, and will rip through Magneton and Magnemite pretty damn quickly.  Elektrike is weak enough to be just brute forced through.

Tate and Liza's difficulty is nullified by the fact that you can catch a Sharpedo in the very same town you fight them in.

DARK + WATER with Tonospeed = Regular fight as opposed to hardfight.
  • Not to mention Wattson's team isn't just electric, it's mostly steel with low special defense.  Combusken can rip him a new one.  And I think there's Gen 3's equivalent of a Diglett Cave or whatever it was just outside of Mauville.
  • Kichigai birthday!!
^ There's a cave near, but there are only Whishmurs in it.

Anyway, Wattson's team is way worse in a hack I'm playing. He has an Elekid, a Lanturn, a Magneton, and an Emolga. Especially Emolga. That little shit is strong against the 3 starters
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
    Emolga? What's that?
  • a little muffled
A gen 5 Pokémon. I have no idea why Wattson would have one.
