When comedic/absurd works take themselves seriously

Has friends besides tanks now
Example: I'm trying to slog through the last three episodes of Kore Wa Zombie Desu Ka? and, compared to the first few episodes, this is simply painful. Hell's bells.

Why is it that some shows decide to put more focus on the plot/other weak parts than on stronger features when they were either originally intended to be comedic, or at least none-too-serious, when the plot was so shitty in the first place, and/or when one or more of the show's gimmicks were so absurd in the first place as to render the plot meaningless, since clearly the fans are not watching it for the plot? Infinite Stratos and Highschool of the Dead also come to mind. I wish I had more examples, but I'm pretty sure this happens often enough to bug other people.

Note: I'm fine with shows that are absurd, or have shitty plots, or are comedic (well, no shit on that last part). My biggest gripe is the "take themselves seriously" part, not the "bad plots/characters/whatever" part.

Fanservice with plot. That's all it is, and that's all it will ever be.

    Also, order of the stick.

My biggest problem with Highschool of the Dead, other than bad fanservice, is the fact that it seems to take itself too seriously. I should probably address in the OP that that was my biggest complaint overall.
  • South Park.

    That is all.

That's why Dragonaut: The Resonance failed as a show. It had a whole bunch of silly (and stupid) moments and copious amounts of boobs, yet it still wanted to be taken seriously. And I've seen the free will themes handled less anviliciously in Sonic Adventure of all things.
  • Linebarrels of Iron.

    Uhg. That was just terrible.
