Madoka Magica's ending (spoilers, obviously)

(Half-IJBM half-Headscratchers)

I don't get why only after 12 episodes did somebody think about wishing to fix everything everywhere (they didn't always know about the hope/despair thing, after all, and didn't ask) or other wishes to instantly do whatever some of them were becoming magical girls for, or eliminating the caveats of becoming one, or other "big" wishes.

Why didn't they wonder if they could do that sort of thing? I assumed I had missed something and those kind of wishes were simply against the rules, so I feel kind of cheated that the series ended with one.

  • We Played Some Open Chords and Rejoiced, For the Earth Had Circled the Sun Yet Another Year
    Because teenage girls.
  • Also, Kyubey said that Madoka in particular, because of her omgwtf magical potential, was the only one who could make such an absurd wish as far as we know.
  • I'm convinced that the ending was actually the ending to a completely different show, and it just mistakenly got put at the end of Madoka Magica.

^^^ and ^^ 2: I figured that much, but they didn't even wonder if they could do it.

^^ 1. They could've wished (or tried to) for similar things, such as the dissappearance of witches.
  • I'm convinced that the ending was actually the ending to a completely
different show, and it just mistakenly got put at the end of Madoka
    Magica.
Nah, it's pretty similar to what happened in Faust.
  • Is it?

In any case, it seems odd that Madoka Magica, of all shows, would end with a happy ending achieved through what is essentially the power of friendship.
  • ^^^ Exactly, they didn't know it wouldn't have worked, that's why they should've tried.
  • Well, it's a similar concept, the idea that a truly selfless wish (like Madoka's) would release her from her fate.

(disregard this post, I'm tsundere for Madoka Magica)
  • Till shade is gone, till water is gone, into the Shadow with teeth bared, screaming defiance with the last breath, to spit in Sightblinder’s eye on the last Day.

  • ^^^ No, but we do see a few (Sayaka and the other timelines' Madokas, for example) who should've tried something bigger, and didn't.

Fair point on Sayaka, but about the other Madoka's, what I'm saying is that she could've wished for similar wishes about eliminating witches, that's what she wanted to do (as well as assisting Sayaka on that) before knowing where witches came for. Also, Homura did know about it.
  • I meant that Homura could simply tell the others about the witches' nature. Her wish is actually one of those "big" wishes I mentioned, (theoretically) saving your friends and getting superpowers that make you a hard to kill magical girl.

But I'm buying the other Madokas' wishes thing.

    Thank you.
  • Oh, right. Forgot about that part.
  • Not only did they not believe her, they shunned her, which is probably why she didn't just sit Madoka down in our timeline and explain everything.
