Rhythm Game Scoring

edited 2011-05-13 18:40:41 in Media

Just one mistake, and your low score mocks you for the rest of the song.

For the uninitiated, scoring is based on multipliers which increase depending on how long you can go without missing a beat.

  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
Maybe you could go down just one multiplier instead of all of them? That would be a good idea.

My main beef with rhythm is that they're impossible for actual musicians to play well; they hate creativity and improvisation, which is a little tough to avoid when you're jamming out to One.
  • I dunno.  I like games that significantly punish you for your mistakes.  In fact, the main reason I don't like Guitar Hero's (or any games with similar scoring) scoring is that it doesn't punish you enough for missing notes.  It's just you miss out on a chance to get 3000 points or so for every note you miss.  I kind of prefer it when the multiplier keeps increasing without a limit (or at least, with a rather high limit) and goes all the way back to normal for missing a note.

Yeah, I do like the mechanic for really rewarding good players and giving you more reason to avoid failure. But it's still humiliating when you do screw up, particularly when you're practising the later sections.
  • Well, yeah.  But then, that's why you try to get good enough that you don't screw up.
