From what I've read, incest doesn't cause genetic problems; more like there are some genetic problems that are recessive such that they only manifest themselves if both parents pass them on to their kid, and if you are a carrier for one of those, then there is a descent chance your relatives are as well and so there's a much bigger chance that one of your kids will get the defect in full than if you had married a random stranger of the street.
