Which one?

Russian, Polish, Italian, French, Finnish, or perhaps Gælic? Or maybe something asian, like Japanese or Korean?

So many choices....

WHICH SEAT LANGUAGE CAN I TAAAAAAAAAAAAKE

(I'm probably gonna learn Russian next, anyway)

  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    Español
  • Spanish, definitely.
  • Ugh. I don't like Spanish that much at all.

I associate it with normal everyday mexicans and illegal aliens.

The other romance languages I associate with European class and beauty.

    See, there's your problem

Well, stop doing that association, then.

Spanish is the language of Borges, Becquer and Cervantez, among others.

Italian is the language of Berlusconi, and the French are called Cheese Eating Surrendering Monkeys for a reason.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    Wrong country.

    Has friends besides tanks now
"I associate it with normal everyday mexicans and illegal aliens."

    First of all, stop that.

Second, isn't this like your first year of taking German? Perhaps you should continue to focus on that for a while before deciding which language to learn next (if it's even worth the effort to learn a third to any commendable degree). Then again, I don't know how effective your German teacher is, or how much you've learned. I only have my shitty Spanish classes for reference.

    Noim: No, that was France.

And Italian is much better looking and sounding to me anyway.

And I'm Slavic, so I should learn a Slavic language. Why learn a Romance language when my ancestors where Polish and Lithuanian?
  • No, that was France.
    Yes?

You said Italy was the Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys, not France.

    EDIT: Oh, you fixed it

    You can change. You can.
And I'm Slavic, so I should learn a Slavic language. Why learn a Romance language when my ancestors where Polish and Lithuanian?

Because you're not your ancestors? By that logic, I shouldn't have learned English nor Spanish and I should be posting in whatever the fuck did the Chibcha talk...or the Irish.

Also, Noimporta is right. When you get to it, Spanish is a beautiful sounding language.

  • "Because you're not your ancestors? By that logic, I shouldn't have learned English nor Spanish and I should be posting in whatever the fuck did the Chibcha talk...or the Irish. "

Sorry....I view heritage quite seriously. I think people should embrace and feel proud of their heritage. I was born of Slavic peoples, and I feel proud to be a Slav. And I want to learn a Slavic language because I wish to speak the language my ancestors spoke when they first came to America. Only then can I truly be proud of my heritage.

  • Which is the exact opposite to me. Heritage means absolutely bugger all to me, blood even less.

Anyway, I'm trying to learn Dutch right now so I'm going to recommend Dutch to you.
  • «the French are called Cheese Eating Surrendering Monkeys for a reason.»
Mostly stupid bullshit about the Iraq War and Charles De Gaulle, if I remember correctly.
  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    The French Resistance. Stereotypes lose.
  • Mostly stupid bullshit about the Iraq War and Charles De Gaulle, if I remember correctly.
Yes, but historical accuracy is not the point. The point is that the French have their fair share of vapid shit as well. I would've actually cited some, but import filter means all we get from France is usually pretty good.
  • "Which is the exact opposite to me. Heritage means absolutely bugger all to me, blood even less. "

    As a question, why?

Heritage and blood have always been extremely important to me. People are born to or from one place, and they have a spiritual connection of sorts with it, to me. I think people should at least pay respects to their heritage and bloodline, and be proud to be whatever nationality they are. I'm proud to be an American. I'm proud to be a Slav. I'm proud to be half-black. I can never escape my heritage or my blood. I should embrace it as much as possible (though not fully, one should have leeway to do their own thing).

    But that's just my opinion.
  • I think I should make a separate thread about Patriotism. So this one doesn't derail into a debate on that.
  • So, anyway, Spanish. Love it. Learn it.
  • Eh, in the end, why exactly should I learn it?

I don't like it, so the only reason is strictly business. You haven't actually stated that as a reason to learn, however.

I'm learning these languages for fun, remember. There's no point if I'm dislike the language.
  • Well, your reasons for disliking it are, by your own admission, pretty dumb, were you to overcome your bias, you'd be able to appreciate it. It'd also allow you to read authors like Borges and García Marquez in their original language, which is much better than a translation, or read authors like Cortázar at all (not a lot of his stuff was translated to English). It's also among the most useful to learn, since it's the main language of Mexico, most of Central and South America and a big part of Florida.

All in all, it's the most likely language to net you benefits for your efforts.

    You can change. You can.
Also, almost the whole continent in which you live speaks it. If you want to make bussiness with mexicans or any other country, then...well, it's better to speak their native tongue than forcing them to switch to a oreign language.

Besides, how are you supposed to get good cocaine at a cheap price when you can't even haggle and barter properly?
  • I'm gonna play devil's advocate for a bit.

There's no bad reason to learn a language. If the soil in his bodily fluids makes Chagen want to learn Polish or something, well, that's something to keep him motivated and eager to learn it right.

I also think there's no bad reason not to learn a language (except factually incorrect ones, I suppose), for the same but inverted reasons.

    But yes, Spanish is beautiful.
  • Spanish is awesome, but I say you should start learning Mandarin, but for some reason tropers think Chinese dialects sound weird anyway so nevermind.

    Learn Swahili.
