"You're being philosophical"

I hate when I ask a question and get the answer "you're being philosophical/thinking too much/that's what philosophy is for." Gee, thanks for noticing, captain obvious. If I was looking for my backpack, and I asked you "have you seen my backpack?" would you respond "you're looking for your backpack." Hopefully not; hopefully you'd give me some insight into where my backpack is. When I'm being philosophical, I'm looking for ultimate truths (which I'd say are a little more important than a backpack). Are you going to inform me that I'm looking for ultimate truths, or help me look?

The answer to that question is itself an ultimate truth. But you have to choose between learning it and getting your backpack back.

So I can either know the value of something I can't have, or have something I don't know the value of? The backpack seems like the right choice.
