The sword as a symbol for the penis.
The spear looks way more like one.
Unless you did something like add a hilt that looked like testicles on Ike's sword from Fire Emblem, Ragnell, but it is usually not like this.
This particularly bothers me when people consider a sword a symbol of the penis when the blade is very long and...whatever the opposite of wide is.
There's also how it's typically the entire sword, rather than the blade alone.

That's apparently enough for it to count as a phallic symbol.
The Hero wields swords. Spears almost always are the domain of The Lancer or other characters.
So they got it right, I guess.
If it's longer than it's wide, then it's phallic
If it's longer than it's wide, then it's phallic
If it's shorter than it's wide, then you turn it on its side, and it's longer than it's wide, and it's phallic.
...Narrow?
THE PENIS IS EVIL

But I know this is not true.
So you must just be vorping.
guessing the symmetry of the sheath and the sword is part of what led to
the symbolism being more common"
Hm... In German, the word (or rather one of the words, since we have "Vagina" too) for vagina is the same as the word for sheath/scabbard ("Scheide").
That reminds me of a quote from a P&P RPG session, I once read. Someone was chasing a female warrior and to stop her wanted to grab the sheath of her sword. Hilarity ensued when he said "I grab her sheath", which sounded exactly like "I grab her vagina".

Then again that's what I can call it when you decide to be an extremely bleak, uninteresting and forced negative goth kid.
