"They hate that style, but they'd steal it at a moment's notice"

I found this from Googling "oversinging".

Can you make head or tails of this? I can't.

  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I think the response to that should be U MAD?
  • I have a feeling that I would agree with it if I understood any of what it was saying. :/

    What the hell is oversinging?

    ^ American Idol.

Or, to be more specific: excessive volume, too much vibrato, melisma-ing the notes all over the place, Star Spangled Banner, etc.

  • When in Turkey, ROCK THE FUCK OUT
    I like calling it ChristinaAguileraing.
  • I object to....well first I object to the letter's insipidity, and this is from someone who doesn't always mind the kind of "oversinging" they're talking about, but in particular the word "soulful" is badly misused. "Soulful" singing can mean two things--singing with emotion, or singing in the "soul" style of American music. You can, of course, adopt today's "oversinging" style, melismas and all, without a shred of emotion and without ever making more than a cheap offshoot of soul music, if that. It's not the style, it's what you do with it.
