    I feel like if the value of the work rests so heavily on one single element being surprising that one spoiler could completely negate any reason to watch the thing in question, then it probably isn't worth watching to begin with.  Not that I'm saying spoilers can't lessen your enjoyment of something, but saying "now I don't have to watch the work" instead of, say, "now I don't want to watch the work" is kind of strange.

    Yeah, I do know what you mean.  Especially for certain types of events (main character deaths, major plot twists, sudden genre shifts, etc.) the impact of them drastically goes down if you know about them beforehand. 

    Ideally, they should be worth watching even if you already know about them (or else there would be no reason to rewatch movies you've seen before, or whatever), but even if it's sufficiently well done, you still never get to experience it "properly," which is kind of disappointing no matter how good it ends up being.

    My "favorite" is when knowledge of a major spoiler is so ingrained into the consciousness of the (sub)culture you're a part of, that you're much more likely to first find out about the spoiler than figure out whether you'd want to see the work in the first place. This happened with me with Kamina's death.
