Video game franchises that are completely ignored by their owners.

Morgan Freeman is God
Some game franchises, such as F-Zero or Mother, haven't had a new game for them in years. This becomes even more frustrating when these franchises are acknowledged through remakes (such as many of Square-Enix's recent re-releases) or cameos in other games (such as Super Smash Bros. Brawl.)

I've noticed that Nintendo and Square-Enix are especially prone to this.

Is anyone else frustrated by this?

  • You're upset that game series don't last forever?
  • Morgan Freeman is God
Yes, but sometimes it makes no sense that newer games are never made, given that many of the franchises are considered classics and would surely make a decent amount of money if revived.

Meanwhile, Square releases the zillionth Final Fantasy game.

YOU MEAN THAT GAME SERIES THAT SELL WELL LAST LONGER THAN ONES THAT DON'T?

WHAT THE FUCK DUDE, THAT IS INSANE

  • "Meanwhile, Square releases the zillionth Final Fantasy game."

And they still haven't made a remake of FF7.

Fuck FF7, we need a remake of FF6 stat.
  • I like FF7 best.
  • But you never had any to begin with.
^^ We've got the GBA one...

Maybe Square thinks that VI and VII hold up well enough after only 15 years and don't need to be updated, and that they should spend their time and money on new games.

They kinda did already; it's got the same graphics but a totally updated translation and new optional dungeon.

Also, if anything, Nintendo and Squenix are LESS prone to this since they're large companies with the capital to actually continue less popular offerings.  And for that matter, Mother 3 is a rather recent game, and Mother 1 and Mother 2 saw re-releases within Japan.
  • Screw FF.

I'm wondering where the hell my god damn F-Zero Wii is.

It is a popular series...but are Amusement Visions still around?

The most recent F-Zero game was less than 7 years ago.

That's kind of a while, I guess, but... not nearly long enough to say they've completely ignored it and won't release any more games ever.

And in any case, I don't see why a video game franchise needs to last forever.

^^ AV were only involved in 2 F-Zero games. ...Or 1, depending how you count AX/GX.
  • I want AV to the next one because GX/AX was fucking incredible. And SEGA would give it another CrowningSoundtrackOfAwesome.

This is probably just nostalgia from me playing GX back when I was like 7-8, though.

If they make a new F-Zero, it better be as hard as GX.

It's also frustrating when a series has a bunch of questions left unanswered, like the case of the Mother series.
  • *cough*SEGA AND RARE*cough*

    But Killer Instinct was terrible...

Or at any rate, not nearly good enough to justify a sequel (yes, I know it did get a sequel)

  • If that don't work, use more gun.
^^^^Except that the Mother games aren't exactly direct sequels of each other.  So I'm not sure your questions would've been answered anyway.  Besides, Itoi himself didn't want to make anymore Mother games.

How about series that have never seen sequels in the first place, but have sequel hooks?

Monster Tale and Scurge: Hive both have sequel hooks but no sequels yet.

And Hebereke (a.k.a. U-four-ia) has only had party games as sequels--the original game is a solid metroidvania with great music, and I'd like to see that tradition continue.

Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts pretty much promised a sequel that wasn't about vehicles, but with Rare's new direction, I'm not sure it's going to happen.

Hopefully the rumors about a 3DS Banjo game planned are true.
