Dyscalculia

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dyscalculia Despite math being one of my best subjects, I exhibit some of the symptoms of this. Such as the difficultly in sequential processing--I am terrible at games like Portal because I cannot easily do things such as figuring out how to make a complex chain of portals to reach a normally inaccessable place. I also tend to lose my place when counting up numbers. Though that could just be ADHD. This is odd.

how is math one of your best subjects if you have math dyslexia

Also, IJBM: People self diagnosing these kinds of things.

  • As strange as this sounds, I read that people can be good in math but still have Dyscalculia. It makes no sense, I know. But it's possible, and maybe even not uncommon.
  • Subhuman.  I say we round up all the subhumans that are bad at math and make them watch Uwe Boll until they can count all the flaws.
  • But I'm good at math.....

There are some concepts which just escape me for some reason, though.

I'm pretty sure that that's normal.
  • "Dyscalculia" makes me think of a dyslexic vampire.

oh good its not just me
  • It can also be called "Numlexia".
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^"Numlexia?" But...but...wouldn't that mean "the ability to read numbers?"
  • Read the wikipedia article. It's an accepted name for it.

    ...mobile Wikipedia is weird...

Also that "Synonym" section is hilarious and... I really am pretty sure it shouldn't be in the article.  If anything, that should just be up there in the opening paragraph.  Except not really because it's not sourced.
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
Well, it's a stupid name for it and the person who came up with it did not understand etymology.
  • Oh crap. You can read mobile wikipedia on desktops?
  • OOOooooOoOoOOoo, I'm a ghoOooOooOOOost!
^Yep. Your link went to it.
  • Considering that the "Numlexia is a synonym for dyscalculia" thing was added by someone who doesn't understand Wikipedia, I won't take it too seriously.  That said, a Google search does indicate it's used at least somewhat, but there's no way that's an excepted technical name for it.  Rather, it was probably just made up by people as an incorrect variation of "dyslexia"+"numbers".
