It looks like you're new here. If you want to get involved, click one of these buttons!
That is, the people typing that to mock the people complaining about the updates, not the people complaining about the updates themselves.
I don't know all the details (if somebody could fill me in, that'd be great), but what difference does the update being free make if the content it brings sucks? It's like if a free WoW update added some new joke quests, but said joke quests were written by Carlos Mencia.

If so, that takes "you can't complain about free stuff" to a whole new level.
In any case, it's really stupid to think that.
Looking through the update blog...it looks like it's mostly silly hats.
That just seems inconsequential.
If you don't like the Hats, then just play the stupid game. It's not like you have to trade for a hat before you're allowed to play a round of Payload. I think people took the Hats way too seriously in general.
Plus, the waves of complaining about this aspect or that aspect get really tiring when quite a bit of the complaining boils down to "FUCK YOU VALVE, YOU RUINED TF2" or "Oh hey, an update to Hat Fortress 2!" If they can come up with proof or, you know, a good reason for why the whole Hats thing is as bad as they make it out to be (lack of LODs is a good one), then they get to complain. Thing is, those would be the kind of people who Valve would listen to and given the state of the game, either Valve really isn't listening or there aren't enough sound complaints.
>If they can come up with proof
Speaking of which, could you point me where you saw what you're talking about?
This Wiki page. So many unoptimized models.
The Valve listening thing?
When Political Gamer interviewed Robin Walker at Valve, Walker stated that they prefer to react to customers, look for common threads of discussion and community-proposed solutions.
The complaining itself?
Shouldn't be that hard to look for.
EDIT: ^Yeah, I play on Custom Server maps and servers run by the Steam Groups I'm part of.
I thought you stopped playing due to Minecraft.
>Don't know why people are bitching about a completely optional part of a game. To me, that's the ultimate embodiment of entitlement video gamers have these days.
When you consider the inconvenience of downloading mandatory updates just for something that's functionally useless, it starts to seem more like Valve is wasting your time.
Yes, there's an option in a game's Properties (right-click on an installed game in your Library) under the Updates tab to not automatically update said game. You will have to install it eventually to keep up-to-date, but if you don't have the luxury of being able to update every day, wait until you can by disabling auto-updating.
Really, just find a group/clan that runs public servers that are close enough, play some random ones that don't fit into those categories you mentioned and add them to favorites.
Servers are practically a dime-a-dozen with TF2. Even Sturgeon's Law applies to them, that still leaves a large quantity of "good" servers.
^Me? Mind you, some updates seem small and insignificant, but some, like the Hatless Update, capture my interest.
