What, you mean I have to go read his entire bibliography just so I can see whatever you want me to see? What the hell is wrong with you?

Anyway, it bugs me how no one will ever go into any detail when doing this.

    You mean like, citing a specific essay or book chapter?  Though I can imagine that might not always be possible.

    I think giving a rough summary would be preferable, but IDK, maybe some things are hard to summarise.

    Having to learn German to do a Ph.D on a French philosopher is pretty ridiculous, though.
  • That is very relevant Myrmidon and funny, but to the topic I prefer having a text name, translator if applicable and edition if applicable instead of being told to go read a specific philosopher.

    I couldn't even understand what they were saying in Myrm's video.

    Anyway, I think what they mean when they say this is "you need to have a general understanding of [name of philosopher]", but they don't say that because people are stupid.
