Anime dub complainers

CRIMINAL SCUM!
Let this youtube channel, be an example of what you do not do, when criticizing english dubs.

- You do not whine over and over again about "How really bad it was" without explaining why

- You do not say that it is obvious "how really bad it was."

- You do not complain about how companies 'ruined' anime series with bad dubs.

- Especially if you can lay out no reason why said dubs are 'bad' besides you not liking them.

- You do not 'reenact' how 'horrible' said dubs are, using the guilt by association fallacy as an example of these bad dubs.

In short. Take some fucking classes about how to talk to an audience and convey an idea before you make more of these crappy youtube videos.

Pay the court a fine or serve your sentence.

Duck tape to the mouth.

"You do not complain about how companies 'ruined' anime series with bad dubs."

It perplexes me why people that stick to the subs care about dubs. If you've watched the series once already, what does it matter how an alternate version comes out to you?

    Then again:

(goes back to watching the laughably bad Chaos Wars dub)

    CRIMINAL SCUM!
I'll never hear the end about how "Bad" the DBZ dub was. Or how "Bad" DBZ just was.

The problem is these people take that show seriously. When the whole thing is clearly Narm Charm and Camp.
  • You know, even if a show is silly, people can still not like it.
That doesn't really have anything to do with anything except the very last thing you said though.

    >what does it matter how an alternate version comes out to you?

To play devil's advocate: bad dubs set up a bad precedent for anime quality in the public eye?
  • So does the Import Filter and its emphasis on Shonen anime. And people vastly overestimate the damage done by dubs anyway. If anything, I found it creates some mystique over what actually happened in the original.

  • I don't care about the fact they were right the dub was bad. I cared about the way they talked like idiots.
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I feel that with dub the dialogue has to go through quite a bit of change especially to match it to the mouth movements. Whereas with subs you can just put the text at the bottom that is closest to the translation.

    Picture related:
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
    ^ Image is win.
  • Ian, you have to rewrite things in translation.

I never got why some people want the translation to be literal.

Ich muss die Hausaufgaben nach Hause machen (not sure if the grammar is right) in German is literally "I must the homework at house do". Even though the sentence means "I must do homework at home".

Japanese would be even worse, given it's lack of articles, low verb conjugation, pro-drop tendencies, not even having true pronouns, using participles instead of preposistions, non-inflecting nouns.....
  • Creature - Florida Dragon Turtle Human
I translated things as literally as possible (within the bounds of halfway-reasonable English phrasing) in my Latin homework, but that was mainly to learn the language rather than make it sound nice.
  • Whenever German assignments make me translate things, I always try to Woosleyize it. I prefer liberally rewriting--in most cases, it's not the exact words that matter, but the meaning of the sentence that matters the most to me.
  • I resist arrest!
  • SIE KOMMT MIT MICH!
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I never said the exact translation:
"Whereas with subs you can just put the text at the bottom that is closest to the translation."

So rather than the fitting words to the animation of the mouths OR having a direct sub I was suggesting a well translated sub with out the need for filler phrases or anything in subs.
