Opposition to the phrase "Hater's gonna hate"

Cue-bey
It always seemed to me like it meant that there will always be people who will not even consider that something could be a source of enjoyment/fun for someone and there is no point in arguing with them. Its overused, granted, but it doesn't seem particularly awful at its core.

    ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
I guess it comes with the phrase, since it used as the meme countermeasure to disregarding the disagreement with said act and the negativity of those to come.

I guess people hate the fact that a simple 3 word sentence can dismiss their comments of something they generally dislike.

    "I like Johnny Test"

"But Johnny Test sucks and I can tell you why"

    "Haters gonna hate"

    /argument
  • I can see someone being annoyed if their posts were responded to purely with "Hater's gonna hate", but if you go on a fan site specifically to insult/talk shit about something with little to back up your arguments it seems like an acceptable response.
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
The thing is, why would you bother with somebody who uses HGH as a response to anything you say to them? It's best to talk to people who can accept discussion about said thing, regardless if the dislike involved.

If there's actual discussion with actual points, yes, using HGH woulld be pretty dumb to do, but if someone just says "X  is 4 dickfags" and reponds to everything with 'suck cock in hell homo" some humorous pictures don't seem beyond the pale.
  • Kinda like,

    Vorpy gunna vorp.

    :P
  • ☭Unstoppable Sex Goddess☭
I have grown adjusted to you using that CD, so yeah, I am going to Vorp. Just in a different way.
  • I wonder what that might be.
  • For some reason I pictured masturbation.

    Loser
I think I can kind of understand what Vorpy means about people using "Haters gonna hate" as a rebuttal tactic. However, I do not think that people generally should need to "defend" their subjective tastes in TV shows anymore than they are obligated to say why they prefer rocky road ice cream to mint chocolate chip. Your mileage may vary there though, I could be comparing two situations that are actually very different.

At the very least, I see "Haters gonna hate" as an appropriate response when someone talks about how K-On!! is horrible moe fluff (for example). I feel like most K-On!! fans probably know that there are plenty of people who dislike that show and likely will not benefit from debating about their tastes with someone who really dislikes that TV show.
  • You can change. You can.
I don't think there should be defending, really. But I think explaining why do you like/dislike X show is a valid discussion. Of course, it's valid if both parties agree that taste is subjective and liking/disliking a show for any reason is valid.

If you don't state those reasons/accept that fact, well, you deserve to have no discussion and to not be taken seriously, if you ask me.
  • I oppose the phrase because of the misplaced apostrophe, but that's just me...
  • Inside, too dark to read
    Hitler's gonna hit
  • I am Dr. Ned who is totally not Dr. Zed in disguise.
I'm honestly surprised the first response to this wasn't a haters gonna hate image.

^^It's not actually that hard once you figure it out. And by "figure it out," I mean "look it up."
